Pam

Pamela Blades Eckelbarger:  Owner, CEO, Head Photographer, Boss

Photographing horses in competition for over 17 years, Pamela has become a well-known fixture at most USEA Area I events as well as regional horse trials and dressage shows throughout New England. Hoof Pix® images regularly appear in publications such as The Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar, The Chronicle of the Horse, Practical Horseman, The Horse’s Maine, Dressage Today, and Eventing USA. They have graced numerous program covers and posters for the Groton House Farm Horse Trials and Hoof Pix® stock images have been purchased for use by companies selling equine products such as Dover Saddlery, Purina and Bit of Britain.

Pamela was raised in a horse-active family in the Finger Lakes Region of Western New York State and spent her “formative years” showing, fox-hunting in the Genesee Valley, and eventing.  She obtained a BS in Biology at Ithaca College (‘73) and a MS in Zoology at the University of New Hampshire (‘76 when she competed in her last event for the next 20 years!), then moved to Vero Beach Florida to pursue a successful research/publishing career as a marine scientist. During this period, she married Kevin Eckelbarger, also a marine scientist, and started a side business developing her photographic skills in black and white, fine-art photography.

In 1991, Kevin became Director of the Univ. of Maine’s Darling Marine Center, a move that brought Pamela closer to home and back to the world of horses. Looking for a business that would combine her knowledge of the horse world and photography, she retired from a 25+ year career as a scientist and started Hoof Pix® Sport Horse Photography in 1992.

Reflection

"Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around." (Henry David Thoreau)

Pamela’s eye for detail and love of imaging led her to expand the business from simply recording the moment (at events) to creating unique fine-art posters and greeting cards.  Her designs combine eye-catching elements of an image with humorous, inspirational or thought-provoking sayings.

As a result of the success of both her competition proofs and cards/posters, Hoof Pix® is now a registered trademark and was incorporated into a LLC in 2009.

When not traveling, behind the camera or on the computer, Pamela enjoys training and competing her Connemara/Thoroughbred gelding, Irish Journey, in regional events and dressage shows.
